Thistle Hill is located in North Central Minnesota. We began breeding British White cattle in 2004 and have slowly built up our herd. Our breeding focus has been to raise healthy animals to sell to other breeders. Our cattle are raised naturally on our farm. They have plenty of food, water, fresh air and room to graze. Every animal in our herd is tested for BVD, not just vaccinated for it. If anyone has experienced having BVD in their herd, they know how devastating it can be. We have a solid vaccination program in place and provide our cattle with good minerals all year long. The good health and fertility of our cattle is our hallmark and we take it very seriously. Statistics are kept on each animal, from birth weight, 205 day adj. weight, yearling weight, vaccination dates and types and any other treatment done. We have began to test for DNA markers for tenderness, marbling and feed efficiency and have that information available as well. We sell cattle to people wanting to start raising British Whites but also our bulls are quite popular with commercial cattle operations. Our bulls have a -2.5 to -3.9 feed efficiency rating which brings a lot more cash for those calves in the feedlot. Plus the high fertility and calving ease of our females makes a huge difference of getting a live calf on the ground each year.
